THE WORK U(R)TOPIAS TALKS ABOUT THE CONTEMPORARY UTOPIAS
On the occasion of the 200 years from the Greek Revolution we would like to talk through our work, for the contemporary “utopias”.
The Greek Revolution was a utopia that became reality 200 years later.
Today this seems inconceivable.
Starting with the notion of utopia and its elements, it would be interesting for us to research which could be the utopias of the future.
The work seeks to discover these ideas based, though, on the knowledge of the past. In this point, utopia becomes for us Ur-topia. The prefix -Ur that means ancient, primitive, prototype, symbolizes the path for the definition of a new utopia, which revisits our history.
The utopias that were created in the 20th century rejected completely the past, denied the old, in order to suggest pioneering ideas that could lead to an “effective” revolution.
And they failed.
Utopias that will be invented in the 21st century, request the past so that they can speak for the future. And this is the reason why our Urtopia begins by re-reading our history. To permit us the inspiration. To prove us, through real facts, that we can imagine our future otherwise.
And after we manage to discover parts or fragments of the old, we will try to embody our own ideas so that we reinvent new ways to fight and resist. To imagine independence. To realize the fight. To stand the fall.
Because we could never imagine a better ending than this of a revolution.
A revolution that will not only loudly shout for its ideas, but it will enforce that tomorrow belongs to everyone. The revolution that will construct the kind of Humans that we all deserve.
Besides, all the flowers of the world blossom in turbulent moments.
And this is how the idea of heroism awakes. And it sows the seeds of hopefulness and strength inside the palms of all the Free Besieged.
It is time to fight for what we didn’t have the chance to reach. Even if we fall.
There will always be somebody to shout: Go!
