Lisi Estaras
I studied dance and social work in Argentina. When I decided to finally become a professional dancer I moved to Israel first, then to Europe. I worked with les ballets C de la B as a co-creator/ interpreter between 1997 and 2017, Wolf,VSPRS, Pitié!, C(H)ŒURS and Tauberbach by Alain Platel, Tempus Fugit by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. Through the years I also collaborate with other artists and colectives, Peeping Tom, Constanza Macras, Benny Claessens, Gaia Saitta, Ido Batash, Platform K, Lies Pauwels, Irene Russolillo, Ayelen Parolin, SergeAime Coulibaly…
In 2016, I created Monkey Mind, an inclusive work with three dancers with Down Syndrome. This was a significant discover in my artistic parkour and open a new path in my choreographic research of translating thoughts and emotions into movement.
Since 2018, and with the support of the Flemish Government I carry out several research topics in connection with my ‘Monkey Mind’ method. Themes of kinesthetic, empathy and the mirror neurons, Art (dance) Brut are explored and developed in the projects to come.
Also in 2018, I premiered two major productions, Hillbrowfication (Johannesburg), a collaboration with (non-)professional youngsters of Hillbrow and Gorky Theater and Goethe Institute Berlin and Sapiens- Rabia for the Ballet ContemporaneoTeatro San Martin (BuenosAires,Argentina).
For the Day of the dance 2018, she co-creates with Alain Platel Le Sacre du Printemps which brings more than 200 people dancing in the streets of Ghent and Valladolid.
Early 2019, Lisi creates The Jewish Connection Project in collaboration with Ido Batash, a piece for five dancers and a soprano (première 14 & 15 February, Campo Ghent) For the dance ensemble SEAD, she creates No Human No Cry. The same season she premieres Vernaculos for the Compania Nacional de Danza Contemporanea, BuenosAires, Argentina.
Her creation in collaboration with Ido Batash and the Brussels based tango music ensemble SONICO –The Heart Is the Muscle We Like toWorkOut. It premières in March 2020.
In October 2020, Bibliomaniacs premières.A dance piece Lisi made with 6 female dancers of the Itinerant Dance Ensemble, in a production of Dorky Park and Constanza Macras, Kindl (Berlin).
In 2021 and 2022,she is guest choreographer, amongst others at Mercat de les Flors (Barcelona), B12(Berlin) and the Flemish Opera (Ghent)
On the occasion of her 50th birthday, Lisi creates #THISISBEAUTY.This solo premiered on April 21th 2022 (KC Nona, Mechelen) and can be seen this summer at TAZ, Oostende. Lisi is doing a research project in the season 2021-22 at theAP Hogeschool inAntwerp, devoted to Art Brut, dance and disabilities.
