SAVVINA XHAFERAJ
Savvina Xhaferaj is a dance artist. She was born in Athens to Albanian parents. She studied dance at National School of Dance where she graduated from in 2023. During her studies, she attended seminar courses with: Nicole Ishimaru (Netherlands Dance Theater), Adi Zlatin (Batsheva Dance Company), Fernando Suels (Tanztheatre Wuppertal), Linda Kapetanea (Rootlessroot), Denise Vale (Martha Graham), Jone San Martin (William Forsythe) and more. As a dancer, she has participated in works directed by important choreographers as: Fotis Nikolaou, Marianna Kavallieratos, Blenard Azizaj, Roula Koutroumpeli, Daniel Lommel, Anastasia Lyra (National Theatre, Olympia Theatre, Municipal Theatre of Pireus and more). During her senior year she choreographed her work ‘’Vis Absoluta’’, which she presented at “Young Choreographers 2023’’. At the same event she introduced her collaboration with Panayota Yagli, ‘’Rebirth inside a blackhole’’, in which she also performed. In 2022 she cocreated ‘’Main Sequence’’, a piece which was presented at the Blackbox of Athens Concert Hall. More of her choreographic work can be sampled in pieces like her solo in ‘’Ruthless’’ collection of Dafnis Kokkinos and her choreography for the ‘’Pina Bausch x Hamlet’’ project (School of Fine Arts). Furthermore, she has contributed towards other smaller scale multimedia projects like ‘’12_hours’’ (2021) and ‘’Escaping K’’ (2020). While expanding her studies at (U)rtopias Academy of Choreography, she also teaches contemporary dance and acts as a movement curator for two theatrical productions. At the same time, she is an undergraduate student at the Sociology Department of Panteion University. From a choreographic perspective, she is interested in issues concerning the Millennial and GenZ generations, as well as perceiving the human body as a field of timeless political struggle.
