Fani Maria Chatzi
Born in Thessaloniki, the artist’s first connection with art is created at an early age, through her classical studies in music, at the New Conservatory of Thesssaloniki and Thessaloniki Music Highschool. Fani Maria Chatzi’s later rapport with visual arts begins in 2017, while working with independent music film productions, as a filming assistant, prop creator and eventually still-life photographer during shootings.
In the year 2022, after participating in a variety of filming sets, including collaborations with Stargaze Community, Greek musical artists such as Ilias Kozas, Synthetikoi and others, and experimenting with a variety of fields within audiovisual arts, such as costume provision and theatrical make-up, the artist moves to Athens and is exposed to theater and performance photography, which she aspires to continue pursuing.
Through collaborations with artists such as Marlene Kaminsky and Ilias Hatzigeorgiou, she discovers a deep passion for a more anthropocentric approach to photography and documenting artistic processes alongside other creatives. In the year 2023, she begins working with the U(R)TOPIAS Academy of Choreography and choreographer Patricia Apergi, creating a visual chronicle throughout the project’s duration.
In their personal work, the artist works with generating prototype material and reaching final forms through complex creative procceses and is inspired mostly by natural elements, the fluidity of the human body as well as diving into human stories and a mind’s eccentricities.
In their collaborations they enjoy capturing movement, long-term photographic documentation and working with other creatives, to develop visual materials that reflect their tendency towards hybrid creation, by means of intergrating distinctive artistic fields.
While being mainly enamored with photography, Fani Maria Chatzi maintains a relationship with filming, as the complexity of being involved in multiple artistic subjects continuously creates pathways for the artist’s ongoing search for expression.
